Reminder: Stephen Leacock PS Council Meeting Tonight – November 20, 2018

Stephen Leacock PS Council meets tonight – Tuesday, November 20, 2018 – at 7:00pm in Room 138.  All parents/guardians are welcome.

Please join us to hear updates from Council Co-Chairs, the Principal and Vice-Principal.  We will also discuss holding a Read-a-thon, revising the Council Constitution, and organizing upcoming events.


Stephen Leacock PS Scholastic Book Fair This Week Nov 19-23

The Stephen Leacock PS Scholastic Book Fair takes place in the library from Nov 19 to 23.  Viewing days for classes are Nov 19-21 so your children might come home with wish lists.  Buying days are Nov 22 and 23 including Thursday late afternoon and Friday morning when parents are welcome to come to the Fair when they are at the school for parent-teacher interviews.  A portion of proceeds goes to help fund materials for the school library.

Next Stephen Leacock School Council Meeting Tues. Nov 20

The next Stephen Leacock PS Council meeting is on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at 7:00pm.  We will be meeting in a classroom because the library is busy with the book fair, so look for signs as you enter.  Please join us to plan upcoming events and hear updates from Council chairs, the principal and staff.

Ontario Government Education Consultation

The Ontario Government is consulting with parents across the province to address concerns and get feedback in several areas of the education system.  More information is available at https://www.ontario.ca/page/for-the-parents.

Feedback from these consultations will help shape decisions in the following areas:

  1. Improving student performance in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM)
  2. Preparing students with needed job skills, such as skilled trades and coding
  3. Improving provincial standardized testing
  4. Ensuring students graduate with important life skills, including financial literacy
  5. Managing the use of technology in classrooms, such as cell phones
  6. Building a new age-appropriate Health and Physical Education curriculum that includes subjects like mental health, sexual health education and the legalization of cannabis
  7. Developing the first-ever Parents’ Bill of Rights


There are 3 ways to participate:

Share your views on all or some of the 7 key consultation areas that are outlined above:

2. Email your written submission to fortheparents@ontario.ca and:

  • include your name or the name of your organization
  • add “provincial consultations” as the subject
  • attach your submission as a PDF or Word document

Scholastic Book Fair – Volunteers Needed

The Stephen Leacock PS Library Scholastic Book Fair will be held from Nov. 19 to Nov. 23 2018. Parent Volunteers are needed to help set up, help kindergarten students make wish lists, and assist with daytime buying times.
