Earl of March – Gr. 7-12 Transition team update

A meeting was held on Monday, September 30 for Transition Team members where the architect’s proposal for the addition were presented and discussed.  The proposal accommodates 552 pupils.

Location:  The proposed addition is located at the south end of the high school along Campeau Drive, abutting the existing gym and music department.  The existing ring road will be reconfigured to be a one-way road exiting directly onto Campeau Drive at the south-east corner of the property (behind the Atrium condominiums).  A large outdoor play area is planned in the area towards Campeau Drive.  The 5 memorial trees are currently shown as being incorporated into a memorial boulevard.


Ground Floor

–        full sized double gym with wood floors

–        2 music rooms (one double-sized, one single)

–        drama classroom

–        9 classrooms

–        special education room

–        learning commons area

–        multiple breakout/collaborative learning areas

–        elevator


Second Floor

–        art classroom

–        3 science classrooms (including design/tech room)

–        7 classrooms

–        breezeway to existing building



–        move to ground floor (existing main entrance)

–        administrative and guidance offices

–        existing office space to be used by community living program


The financials are in the +/- 20% range with the current estimate at $13.1M.

The project timeline includes OCDSB approval in November, Ministry approval in January 2014, and construction beginning in June 2014.

A public meeting to present the proposed plans and gather public feedback will be held at Earl of March on October 30 at 7:00pm.
