Upcoming meeting on Grade 7-12 at Earl of March: What you need to know

As you may know, Earl of  March will become a Grade 7-12 school in 2015. This means that in September 2015, Stephen Leacock will become a dual track Kindergarten to Grade 6 school (English and Early French Immersion), with all Grade 7 and 8 students attending Earl of March. This decision was made by the Ottawa Carleton District School Board last year after an extensive Accommodation Review Committee (ARC) process involving numerous public meetings and countless hours of input from parent representatives from Stephen Leacock. The Grade 7-12 model at Earl of March is a final decision by the Board, and will impact all families at Stephen Leacock.

To ensure a smooth transition for all students at Earl of March, a transition team is now in place, comprised of Board staff, area principals and parents. Representing Stephen Leacock on this transition team are the school’s principal and members of the intermediate teaching team, as well as parent representatives Carrie Marr and Mary Vincent.

On Monday, March 25 at 7 p.m., a meeting will be held in the Earl of March auditorium to seek public input on the transition to the new Grade 7-12 model. If you would like to have input into this process, you are strongly encouraged to attend this meeting. This is your chance to speak up on any concerns you have about what the Grade 7 and 8 addition to the school will look like and what programs will be offered, before construction begins.

As the work of the Transition Team progresses, we’ll be providing you with updates on this important issue at upcoming Parent Council meetings.
