Parent volunteers for extra-curricular activities

The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board has recently revised their procedures regarding parents volunteering for extracurricular activities. If you would like to volunteer to coach a spring sport or lead a club or activity at Stephen Leacock, here’s how you get can involved:

  1. Print a copy of the Volunteer Application Form and return it to Pauline McKenna, SLPS principal.
  2. The principal will arrange to speak with you about your interest in volunteering and your experience with that sport or activity. Your application will then be forwarded to the Board office.

Please note that in order to lead an activity or sport, you will be asked to meet the following criteria:

  •  Complete a Police Records Check (PRC) for Service with the Vulnerable Sector. In order to have your check processed in time for the start of a sport’s season, you will need to use the Ottawa Police Service’s ‘while you wait’ Express PRC. The cost is $52, but there is a $15 discount with a volunteer letter from the school. The Express PRC is only available at 474 Elgin St. for those living in Ottawa more than five years.  For more information on the PRC process, see: http://www.ottawapolice.ca/en/servingottawa/recordschecks/index.aspx
  • Attend a mandatory OCDSB training session on March 20 from 7 – 8:30 p.m. at Confederation High School (1645 Woodroffe Ave.).

Thank you for your continued support of Stephen Leacock!
