The Holiday Gift Shop is Coming!

Each year, School Council hosts the Holiday Gift Shop for students in Grades 1-3.  This exciting program enables children to purchase their own special holiday gifts for family and friends.

The shop will be held during school hours on December 11 – 13.  All gifts will be moderately priced from $0.50 – $10.00. The majority of items are priced in the $3 – $5 range.  Some of the items that will be available to purchase include jewellery, tools, plaques, plush toys, and coffee mugs.

We are very excited about the value of this program as a learning experience, since it allows the children to select holiday gifts by themselves, so their purchases remain secret from those who would normally have to take them to a store.  It is exciting for the children because they are really buying their own gifts, with help from volunteers and no sales pressure.
Only students who are prepared to participate in the Holiday Gift Shop will be brought to the library for shopping.  Those students who choose not to take part will remain in the classroom with their teacher.
Note: If the elementary teachers union plans a one-day walk-out during the time of the Holiday Gift Shop, the school will be closed and those classes scheduled for that day will not be able to shop as planned.  Every effort will be made to re-schedule those classes for Friday, December 14 so that every child will have the opportunity to participate in this activity.  We should be given 72 hours notice of a walk-out, so we’ll know in advance if re-scheduling will be necessary.  Please check this website or the school blog (http://stephenleacock.org/) for updated information.
